If you or someone you know is experiencing vision loss, we can help you keep abreast of advances in treatments for vision problems such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and others. Our goal is to help people with low vision adjust to their new lifestyle. One way we do this is by helping them find new ways to do old tasks. We help you locate vision aids such as magnifiers, kitchen aids, and talking watches, etc. We can help with appliance markings so you know where the dials are set. We help identify ways that you can modify your surroundings so that life is "more normal" for you. The right magnifier can help you continue to maintain control of personal business such as reading your mail, paying bills and looking at family photos.
We host a life skills group meeting each month that the public is invited to attend. (See below.)
It is a relaxed time where you can come and get to know other people who are
experiencing the same challenges you are in their daily living. We have speakers who give
presentations on a variety of topics. Some recent topics were the new voting machines,
keeping track of diabetic numbers, kitchen tips on measuring and cooking safely.
We also are available to speak to your civic group about a number of vision related topics
or about what we do as a not-for-profit organization and employer.
Are you hosting a health fair? Operating a preschool or daycare? We welcome the opportunity to come to your location and offer your group vision screenings. These are not eye exams, but can help you determine if you should seek professional eye care.
